Save views and play them as a tour

You willSave the places to look from (plan, 3D or walking, with design options), play them as a tour, and share a link that opens at one.
Time4 min
Why it mattersA client taps one view and stands in the room looking at the cabinet, with the option you chose, without learning 3D.

Try it in Plotlay → Opens an example project with this lesson beside it. Nothing to install.

Steps

  1. On the plan, open Views in the quick actions and choose Save view. In 3D or walking, Save view (the star) is in the 3D toolbar and on the view itself. A view is named from where you are, such as Living room, walk, and keeps the design options, layers, phase and level shown.
  2. To stand in front of something, select it and choose Look at this in its properties. You stand at eye height, far enough back to see all of it, inside its room and clear of the furniture. Walk to fine-tune, then Views, the three dots, Update to current.
  3. Open Views to go to one: the camera moves there and the mode, options and layers switch with it. The three dots rename or add a note, duplicate, move it up or down, copy a link or delete it. In 3D the keys 1 to 9 go to a view.
  4. Choose Play views to step through them with a pause on each, or Next and Previous to step by hand. Make a tour route from these views draws a Tour route the walk-through Tour follows.
  5. Copy a link to one view: Views, the three dots, Copy link to this view. It opens at that view for anyone who can already open the project.

Tips

  • To send people round your views, set them as the starting view and choose which they see: see Share a tour of saved views.
  • Room packs can use a saved view as a camera: in Room pack, open Cameras from saved views and tick it.
  • Views are part of the project: Undo takes back a save or a delete, and they come along when the project is copied or imported (tick Saved views).

Common mistakes

  • Saving a view while a layer is switched off and wondering why things are missing when you go back: a view keeps the layers shown, so switch it on and choose Update to current.
  • Sending a view link to someone the project is not shared with: share the project or make a view link first, then copy the link to the view.

Words in this lesson

Phase (existing, proposed, demolish)
Whether something is there now and stays (existing), is new work (proposed) or is coming out (existing, to be removed). Plans, 3D and documents show Current, Proposed or Both from it.
Layer
A group of things in a project, listed in the Layers tab. A hidden layer is left out of the plan, 3D and documents until you show it again.
Design option
One of two or more versions of part of a design, such as two vanities, kept in one project. Only the chosen option shows; clients can pick the one they like.
Room pack
A PDF about chosen rooms: each plan at scale, every wall, views inside and the finish and fit-out schedules. Can show before and after side by side.
