Plotlay Scan

Free for iPhone and iPad

Plotlay Scan measures rooms with your iPhone or iPad and turns them into a floor plan with every wall length and room area. It works on its own, and it can send scans straight into a Plotlay project.

Scanning

On iPhone Pro and iPad Pro models with LiDAR, walk slowly around the room and point the camera at each wall. Walls, doors, windows and furniture are measured as you go.

On any other iPhone or iPad that supports AR, use corner capture: aim the crosshair where each wall meets the floor and tap Corner. Tap Close room to start the next one. Rooms captured in one go line up with each other.

For square corners without LiDAR, switch corner capture to Hold on walls: press the phone flat against each wall in turn and tap Record wall. The walls are joined into the room's outline, so corners come out true even where furniture hides the floor.

Results are usually within a few centimetres per metre. Check anything critical with a tape.

Scan requests

Someone in the office can set up a scan for you: in Plotlay they mark each room on the floor plan and send you a link (by email, message or QR code). Open it on your iPhone or iPad: Plotlay Scan loads the plan with the rooms in order, shows their note, and the scan you send goes straight back into their project, lined up with that plan. A request stays open for up to 30 days, even if you close the app.

Outdoors

Choose Outdoors to capture a garden or site: trees (trunk and canopy spread), fences, edges and paths, garden beds, lawn, paving and single points such as taps or pits. Tap each one with the camera.

For a house or shed, hold the phone flat against each wall in turn and tap Record wall. The app joins the walls into an exact footprint with true corners.

Your location is recorded while you walk, so the drawing can be placed on a map. Shapes are measured by the camera and are accurate to each other; GPS sets where the whole drawing sits, usually within a few metres. Walking 10 m or more lets GPS set the direction as well. In Plotlay the scan lands on the map as one group you can drag to fine-tune.

Sharing a scan

Each scan shows a plan with wall lengths, room areas and ceiling heights. Share it as a PDF plan, a PNG image, a DXF file for CAD, or a Plotlay scan file.

Sending a scan to Plotlay

In Plotlay on the web, choose Add, then Scan rooms. Plotlay shows a QR code and a code of 8 characters.

Scan the QR code with the iPhone camera, or open the link on the device that has Plotlay Scan, or type the code in the app under Connect to a Plotlay project. Then open a scan and tap Send to Plotlay. It appears in the project a moment later, ready to place on a map or building plan.

No account is needed in the app. A link or code works once, for 24 hours.

Android

There is no Android app. In Chrome on an ARCore phone, Plotlay can capture room corners with the camera directly: choose Scan rooms, then Capture with the camera.

Privacy

Plotlay Scan has no accounts and collects no personal data. Scans stay on your device until you share or send one. See the privacy policy.
