Have an agent find or make an object

You willAsk the connector for an item to a requirement and get one that fits, never a near miss passed off as a match.
Time3 min
Why it mattersAn agent can search, compare and build a custom item in one go, and tells you what it changed.
You needA connected agent.

Try it in Plotlay → Opens Plotlay with this lesson beside it. Nothing to install.

Steps

  1. Give the requirement and the hard numbers: “a bathroom vanity 1800 ±10 wide, 460 deep, 850 high, 2 drawers and a 600 open shelf”.
  2. The agent uses find_or_create_object. 1 Search: the Library and your objects. 2 Compare: each item is built and measured (size, drawers, doors, the open section, how it mounts, its finish). 3 Use it if exact. 4 Otherwise adjust a copy of the closest one whose own settings can meet it. 5 Otherwise build it from parts.
  3. It reports close items with what differs (“width 900 vs 1800; no open shelf”) and what it made, measured again. Anything still missing a constraint is said plainly and not placed unless you agree.
  4. What it makes is saved to your library (or the project) and placed with add_item. Open it in the app under My objects to adjust it by hand in the builder.

Tips

  • The same works by hand: Find or make in the Library tab.
  • An agent can also build an object from a parts list in one call (create_object), copy and adjust a Library item (copy_library_item), import a model file and change versions everywhere or for new placements only.

Common mistakes

  • Leaving out the numbers that matter: without them any vanity is “a vanity”. Give sizes with a tolerance.
Check yourself

Nothing in the Library meets the size and drawers you asked for. What does the agent do with create on?

Words in this lesson

Joinery (bench run)
Built-in cabinetry along a wall, such as a kitchen or laundry bench with base cupboards, drawers and handles. Plotlay draws it on plans, elevations and in 3D.
Library
Real-sized things to place, by category and subcategory: kitchen, bathroom, furniture, lighting, power, heating, stairs, outdoor, site, commercial, vehicles, plants. Search in your own words (GPO, countertop), filter, and star favourites.
Elevation and section
An elevation is a side of the house, or a wall from inside, drawn straight on. A section is a cut through the building along a line you place.
Tolerance
How far a value may miss a rule’s limit and still show WARN rather than FAIL: a 6000 mm setback with a 200 mm tolerance accepts 5800 mm as WARN. A warn band does the reverse for a pass close to the limit.
