Drawing a room: the first corner is clicked, then 4.2, 3.6 and 4.2 are typed with Enter, and the room is named Bedroom.

Steps

  1. On the dashboard, choose Draw a room. A blank plan in metres opens with the Room tool on.
  2. Click where the first corner goes.
  3. Move the pointer the way the first wall runs, type its length (4.2) and press Enter. Plotlay keeps the walls square while Square (90°) is chosen.
  4. Do the same for each wall. Leave out the last one and press Enter to close the room.
  5. Type a name in Name this room (Bedroom) and choose OK. The room shows its area on the plan, and its area and perimeter in the panel on the right.
A room called Bedroom drawn 4.2 by 3.6 metres and labelled 15.1 square metres, with its area and 15.6 metre perimeter in the panel on the right.
  6. Tick Walls around it before you start to draw the walls at the thickness you pick.

Tips

  • You can also type in the Length m box on the Room bar and choose Add.
  • Backspace takes back the last corner; Esc stops.

Common mistakes

  • Typing before moving the pointer: the length goes the way the pointer points, so move it first.
  • Clicking corners by eye when you have measurements: type the lengths, they are exact.
Check yourself

You typed 3.6 and pressed Enter, but the wall went the wrong way. Why?
