Plotlay for AI agents
Plotlay has a connector for AI agents. Ask Claude (or any agent that speaks MCP) to draw up a plan and it works in your Plotlay projects directly: rooms, fixtures, doors and windows, square walls, the site boundary, GPS points from site, and finished drawings. Everything it does opens in Plotlay, ready to check and adjust by hand.
What you can ask for
- "Start a project at 35 Ward Street, Pennington. Draw the laundry 2677 by 2800 with a vanity, a washer with the dryer stacked on it and a toilet along the back wall, the door on the east wall, tiles to 1400. Then give me the plan and elevations of the laundry."
- "Add a 3 by 4 metre shed 1.5 metres off the back fence and give me a site plan for council."
- "Mark the four corners of the house as control points and send them to sam@example.com to capture with GPS. Check later and refit."
- "Make the walls between the kitchen, living room and hall single brick, the rest double brick, and draw elevations with a 22.5 degree hip roof."
Connect it
- Claude.ai (and other agents that sign in): Settings → Connectors → Add custom connector, URL
https://app.plotlay.io/mcp, then Connect. Plotlay opens: sign in and Allow. No key to copy. - Claude Code: in Plotlay, your account (the round initial, top right) → AI agents → New agent key, then run the command Plotlay shows:
claude mcp add --transport http plotlay https://app.plotlay.io/mcp --header "Authorization: Bearer YOUR_KEY" - Other agents (Claude Desktop, Cursor and others): a remote MCP server at
https://app.plotlay.io/mcp, signing in, or with the headerAuthorization: Bearer YOUR_KEY.
What it can do
| Tool | Does |
|---|---|
| list_projects, get_project | Your projects, and everything drawn in one, in metres, with a link to open it |
| create_project | A new project at an address or coordinates |
| search_library, add_item | Place any of the Library's items: fixtures, furniture, kitchens, sheds, trees, pools... |
| add_room, add_door_or_window, add_shape | Rooms (with ceiling heights); doors, sliding and double doors, windows and archways, cut through the walls with their swings, heights and marks; any other shape or line |
| add_dimension, set_hatch, set_room_finishes | Dimensions (aligned or square to the drawing), hatched areas, and each room's floor, wall, ceiling and skirting finishes |
| set_3d | What a shape is in 3D: pushed up to a height, a deck, a sunk pool, lawn or paving, a fence, pergola, tree, tank or shed, with its material |
| get_schedules | Doors and windows by mark, rooms and finishes, and the site figures: site area, footprint, coverage, hard and permeable surfaces |
| move_element, delete_element, set_height | Adjust what's there; heights and off-floor heights for elevations |
| square_up_rooms | Straight, square rooms with set wall thicknesses (double brick, single brick, stud...) |
| set_roof, set_room_tiles, add_section_line | Roof type and pitch, wall and floor tiles, section cuts |
| suggest_site_boundary | The land parcel from the state cadastre (SA, VIC, QLD, TAS) |
| add_control_point, request_gps_points, request_scan, check_requests | Ask someone on site for GPS points or a LiDAR scan. What comes back is applied straight away: GPS points refit the drawing; a scan is lined up on the rooms and each takes its measured shape, doors, windows and furniture |
| export_drawing | Plan, elevations, sections, or a room's plan and elevations, as a PDF or SVG link |
How it works
Coordinates are metres east and north of the project's origin (where it was created). The agent uses the same drawing engine as the app, so a plan it draws is a normal Plotlay project: open it, drag things, change heights, export again.
A connection acts as you: it can see and change the projects you can, nothing more. Agents that sign in (Claude.ai) use OAuth with PKCE; each connection gets its own key, listed in Account → AI agents. Make one key per agent or computer, and revoke any of them in the same place. Plotlay stores only a fingerprint of each key.
