# Connect Plotlay to your AI agent

The Plotlay connector lets Claude, ChatGPT or another AI agent work in your Plotlay projects as you: draw rooms, place fit-out, check the rules, price a job and make the documents.

Connector URL (remote MCP server, streamable HTTP): https://app.plotlay.io/mcp
Sign-in: OAuth with your Plotlay account (dynamic client registration, PKCE). Or an agent key sent as Authorization: Bearer YOUR_KEY.
You need a Plotlay account (free is fine). The connector acts as you: it sees and changes only the projects you can.
Guide: https://www.getplotlay.com/agents/connect

## Claude (claude.ai, the desktop app and the mobile app)

1. In Claude, open Settings, then Connectors, then Add custom connector. Custom connectors depend on your Claude plan; on a Team or Enterprise plan an owner may need to add it for the organisation first.
2. Name it Plotlay and paste the URL https://app.plotlay.io/mcp. Leave the advanced settings empty, then choose Add.
3. Choose Connect. Plotlay opens on Connect an AI agent: sign in (or make a free account), check who is asking, then choose Allow Claude.
4. Back in Claude, turn Plotlay on for the chat (the tools or search and tools menu under the message box). Connectors added on claude.ai also appear in the desktop and mobile apps.

## Claude Code

1. In a terminal, run: `claude mcp add --transport http plotlay https://app.plotlay.io/mcp`
2. Start Claude Code, type `/mcp`, choose plotlay and then Authenticate. Your browser opens Plotlay: sign in and choose Allow.
3. No browser on that computer? In Plotlay choose Account, then AI agents, then + New agent key, and run the command it shows instead: `claude mcp add --transport http plotlay https://app.plotlay.io/mcp --header "Authorization: Bearer YOUR_KEY"`

## ChatGPT

1. Custom MCP connectors in ChatGPT need developer mode, which is offered on some plans only, and the menu names change between versions. In ChatGPT open Settings, then Apps and Connectors (or Connectors), then Advanced settings, and turn on Developer mode.
2. Create a connector (or app) named Plotlay with the URL https://app.plotlay.io/mcp and OAuth as the authentication. Plotlay opens: sign in and choose Allow.
3. In a chat, choose Plotlay from the developer mode tools under the message box.

## Cursor, VS Code and other MCP clients

1. Add a remote MCP server (streamable HTTP) with the URL https://app.plotlay.io/mcp. Clients that support OAuth open Plotlay to sign in; choose Allow.
2. Clients that can’t sign in: make a key in Plotlay (Account, AI agents, + New agent key) and send it as the header `Authorization: Bearer YOUR_KEY`. Keep the key secret: it acts as you.
3. For example, in Cursor’s mcp.json: `{ "mcpServers": { "plotlay": { "url": "https://app.plotlay.io/mcp" } } }`

## Check it works

1. Ask your agent: “list my Plotlay projects”. It answers with your projects (or says you have none yet) and a link to open each one.
2. Then try a small job, such as “start a blank plan called Test and draw a 4 by 3 metre bedroom”, and open the link it gives you.

## If it doesn’t work

- The URL is https://app.plotlay.io/mcp, with /mcp on the end. The app address on its own (app.plotlay.io) won’t work.
- Plotlay never opened to sign in: check the connector was added as a remote MCP server (HTTP), not a local command, and that no key or header was entered where sign-in is expected.
- It says unauthorised or the key was revoked: remove the connector, add it again and sign in, or make a new key.
- It can’t see a project: it sees only what your account can. Projects kept only in a browser are not in your account until you sync them.
- Too many calls: each connection may make 120 calls a minute. Wait a minute and try again.
- Your Claude or ChatGPT plan doesn’t offer custom connectors: use Claude Code or another MCP client, or ask your workspace owner.
- Still failing: https://www.getplotlay.com/status shows whether the connector is up. Your agent can report a Plotlay problem for you with report_issue, and tells you what it sent; or raise a ticket at https://www.getplotlay.com/support.

## Disconnect or revoke

- In Plotlay: Account (the round initial, top right), then AI agents. Every connection and key is listed with when it was last used; Revoke stops it straight away.
- In your agent: remove the Plotlay connector (Claude: Settings, Connectors; Claude Code: `claude mcp remove plotlay`).

## For an agent helping someone connect

- Ask which app they are using you in (Claude, Claude Code, ChatGPT or another), then give only those steps, one at a time.
- Once connected, call list_projects, then suggest a first task that suits their projects. get_help answers how to do anything by hand in the app.
- If a Plotlay tool fails and it looks like a defect in Plotlay (not something to fix in your request), call report_issue with the error_ref from the error, then tell them what you sent and give them the link.

## The prompt to paste into an agent

Help me connect Plotlay to you, then get started. Read https://www.getplotlay.com/agents/connect (plain text: https://www.getplotlay.com/agents/connect.md) and walk me through connecting the Plotlay connector step by step, for the app I'm using you in. If you can't open web pages: Plotlay's connector is a remote MCP server at https://app.plotlay.io/mcp, and I sign in to Plotlay when I connect it, so there is no key to copy. Tell me where to add a custom connector in this app. When it's connected, list my Plotlay projects and suggest a good first task.
